Join the First Chance U. Foundation's mission to provide students with opportunities for personal and professional growth through athletics, education, and community building. We are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to help volunteer with our events and help shape the future of our non-profit organization. As a Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping us make a positive impact on the lives of young students who need our help the most. Your involvement will help us in our ongoing efforts to provide resources and support to empower students to succeed. Volunteer with us at our next event and be a part of the change that we want to see in the world!

Fundraising Committee:
1. Grant Writer Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Research grant opportunities aligning with FCU's mission, draft compelling grant proposals, and manage communication with grantors.

  • Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Excellent writing and research skills, experience with grant writing a plus, familiarity with non-profit funding sources.

2. Donor Outreach Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Assist with donor research, develop outreach materials (emails, letters), and participate in donor cultivation efforts.

  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience with database management helpful.

3. Event Planning Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Assist with planning fundraising events (galas, charity auctions), securing sponsorships, and logistical tasks.

  • Time Commitment: Varies depending on event scale, typically 3-5 hours per week leading up to the event.

  • Desired Skills: Excellent organizational skills, experience with event planning a plus, ability to work effectively in a team environment.


Finance Committee:
1. Data Entry Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Accurately input financial data into designated software, maintain spreadsheets, and assist with basic bookkeeping tasks.

  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Strong attention to detail, proficiency in basic computer skills and data entry software.

2. Bookkeeping Assistant Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Assist with accounts payable/receivable, reconcile bank statements, and prepare basic financial reports under supervision.

  • Time Commitment: 4-5 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Prior bookkeeping experience or coursework preferred, strong analytical and organizational skills.

3. Budget Research Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Research and compare costs for services or materials needed by FCU, assist with creating and analyzing budgets.

  • Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Strong research and analytical skills, familiarity with budgeting concepts helpful.

Programming/Events Committee:
1. Workshop Planning Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Assist with brainstorming workshop topics, develop content materials, and recruit speakers/facilitators for FCU programs.

  • Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week depending on the scope of the workshop.

  • Desired Skills: Strong research and organizational skills, creative thinking, ability to collaborate effectively.


2. Event Logistics Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Assist with event logistics (set-up, registration, participant management) for workshops, seminars, or conferences organized by FCU.

  • Time Commitment: Varies depending on the event, typically a few hours on the event day and potentially some set-up time beforehand.

  • Desired Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.


3. Participant Recruitment Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Develop outreach strategies to recruit participants for FCU programs, create flyers or social media posts, and maintain communication with potential attendees.

  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Strong communication and outreach skills, experience with social media marketing a plus.


Marketing Committee:
1. Social Media Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Create engaging social media content promoting FCU's programs and events, manage social media platforms, and respond to follower inquiries.

  • Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Excellent communication and writing skills, familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools (Canva, Hootsuite etc.).


2. Content Creator Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Develop engaging written content (blog posts, website copy, newsletters) highlighting FCU's impact and stories, conduct research for content creation.

  • Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Strong writing and editing skills, creative thinking, experience with content management systems (WordPress etc.) a plus.


3. Website Maintenance Volunteer

  • Responsibilities: Assist with website maintenance (updating content, adding images), ensuring website functionality, and reporting any technical issues.

  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

  • Desired Skills: Basic knowledge of website maintenance tools (WordPress etc.), attention to detail.

  • Utilize online platforms: List volunteer opportunities on websites like VolunteerMatch, Idealist, and your organization's website.

    • Post on IG/Social Media

  • Reach out to local colleges & universities: Partner with career centers or student organizations to connect with potential volunteers.
